Russia’s mass media regulator Roskomnadzor has regained access to Russia’s major crypto news portals. Bits.media was recently blocked because it was not even summoned to attend its representatives as a result of a district court proceeding.
Cryptographic news site Bits.media is back available to Russian readers as Roskomnadzor
Bits.media, the source of crypto-related news with the second largest audience in the Russian-speaking world, could win the cancellation of the blacklist by federal services for Russian communications, information technology and mass media supervision. I was able to do it.
Roskomnadzor, as the agency is also known, I was blocked I visited the Bits.media website last week after adding an unspecified number of pages to the registration of Internet sources that disseminate information that is considered banned by the Russian Federation.
This measure was imposed on the basis of a ruling by the Volzhskiy District Court in Saratov in a proceeding filed by the District Prosecutor’s Office in late March. The judge granted the prosecutor’s request less than a month after considering the case in the absence of the media owner.
Some of the problematic URLs belong to other websites and are not published. Bits.media has established that one of them is the address of a cryptographic exchange aggregator. The page had to be removed, after which media censorship allowed Russian internet providers to regain access to the website. The team believes that the other four links mentioned in the district court’s ruling are the addresses of other aggregators or cryptocurrency exchanges.
However, crypto media management intends to end the case because it claims that the address was blocked in violation of the law. Ivan Tikhonov, founder of Bits.media, said: He pointed out that the editorial staff decided to disable the aggregator page so that the rest of the site would stay online during the process.
In future efforts to overturn the Saratov Court’s decision, Bits.media will be supported by the Digital Rights Center, a Russian law firm specializing in providing legal assistance to Internet users and businesses. Two years ago, the lawyer achieved the unblocking of the Bestchange.ru aggregator.
The company’s legal experts were able to prove that the judiciary had committed the breach because the circulation of cryptocurrencies was not banned by current Russian law and has not yet been banned. The DRC There are other success stories in our portfolio, such as unblocking the Bitcoininfo.ru portal website and Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange.
Bits.media is not the only Russian source of recently targeted crypto-related information. In early April, Roskomnadzor restricted access to Forklog.com, a leading provider of crypto news updates in the Russian-speaking world. As with Bits.media, this happened without prior warning or explanation.
Forklog’s blacklisting took place a few days after the editors of the online version condemned Moscow’s “special military operations” in Ukraine, Bits.media said in its report. According to Roskomnadzor, Forklog has been blocked in Russia so far because it presents information that is banned from distribution in Russia.
