The other shoe finally descended into the mystery of what the UFC was thinking when it closed the doors of the Apex facility to the media and the public for UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Yan this October. I was.
The underlying motivation behind the decision was revealed on the night of the event itself, with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sitting by the cage as one of a very select few in attendance. In fact, whether one of the richest men in the world rented out the entire event like a laser tag birthday party or the UFC simply decided to give him sole occupancy. UFC announced Thursday, October 13, that it has officially partnered with Zuckerberg’s Meta company to deliver an on-demand VR MMA event. In the near future, fans will be able to access the VR feed of MMA cards on the Fight Pass platform (h/t MMA Fighting).
Crowley Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager of Fight Pass, said: “With Meta providing his VR platform and YBVR providing the production expertise, we are confident that this will be a great experience for fighting fans.”
The first event to be held on this new platform will be LFA 144: Gafurov vs. Silva. Accessible through the Meta Horizon Worlds app. That card takes place this Friday, October 14th, in Sioux Falls, SD. It seems that fans who have signed up for his virtual reality feed can access a 180-degree panoramic view of him on Fight Fight Cards and meet and chat live with other of his VR fans. No word yet on what pricing will be for upcoming VR events.

“We are going to battle it out in the Metaverse,” enthused White. “We’ve been working on it for a while.
“It’s kids at home who can put on (goggles) and (wake up) and walk around. We’re still figuring it out, but yes, it’s coming soon. Fighting in the Metaverse. Real It’s going to be a battle
