According to recent mining data, Flashbolts build over 80% of Ethereum relay blocks. Flashbots are centralized entities that act as relays for delivering Ethereum blocks and are dedicated to transparent and efficient Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) extraction. This has raised community concerns about centralization. It also raised concerns about single points of failure in the ecosystem.
Seven active relays are known to deliver at least one block. Flashbot is controlling these relays. This delivered 81.70% of the blocks. BloXroute Max Profit, BloXroute Ethical, BloXroute Regulated, Blocknative, Eden, and Manifold are other active relays. It is worth noting here that Ethereum’s transition to Proof of Stake has been relatively painless. However, the community is becoming increasingly concerned about the concentration of players involved in building blockchain network blocks.
Proponents of Flashbot argue that the system is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) and will eventually be decentralized. However, it is clear that Flashbots or similar systems will need to be completely redeveloped to reduce unexpected complexity in the post-Merge era. On September 15th, it was reported that two wallets processed 46.15% of all Ethereum transactions.
